Design and ErgonomicsAsus clearly listened to user complaints about the flimsy exposed ports on the Transformer Prime, so the new Transformer Pad TF300 has more support around the port area (less curve at the edges where the ports live). The power button is madness on the Prime and is easier to operate on the TF300.The downside to these improvements is that you lose the ultrathin design of the Transformer Prime

With its detachable keyboard and trackpad dock, it's a powerful Android tablet while on the move, and a functional Android-powered netbook when you're sitting at a desk. The back of the tablet and the keyboard is covered in a honeycomb-style texture, which makes it quite grippy to hold in your hand. That said, build quality doesn't quite live up to the impossibly high standards of the iPad 2. The 10.1-inch screen is surrounded by a black bezel and a further metallic surround, which makes the device almost 20mm wider than it would be without them. It's also slightly heavier than some of the other tablets around

Beside the updates of the connectivity modules of the device, this changed the splashscreen, updated various apps, disabled the auto-rotate feature when the tablet is docked and added the Nvidia TegraZone market, with specific Tegra 2 units apps and games. It features full QWERTY keys, trackpad, two USB 2.0 ports and one SD card reader as well as an additional battery that increases overall battery life from 9.5 hours to 16 hours

It still docks in at the rear of the Station, including a docking latch, sports the same 254mm Chiclet keyboard, multi-touch touchpad and an included 22Wh battery that will provide up to 18 more hours of battery life. I loved being able to use the Transformer Prime as a quasi-netbook, with the ability to disconnect the 10.1-inch tablet from the Station and use it as a normal tablet

The detachable keyboard was a huge selling point and I have not been disappointed! This versatility enables me to leave pretty much only the heavy lifting for my laptop. Even as a stand alone Tablet it holds it own but add the mobile keyboard dock and you have a notebook that will also hold it's weight against the entire market

This will tell you of any new events that happened on your tablet (or if you have Facebook, if someone has replied to a comment, etc) such as the completion of a new app download. Still, there is a 8 mm headphone jack if you're trying to get the full quality experience. The front facing camera (1.2 megapixel) is located just a little right of center when holding the device in landscape mode, which is a bit awkward considering I'm used to the portrait video chat of FaceTime on the iPad 2

You won't see the blinding speed when you're poking around the main UI or some of Google's apps, as they're occasionally nonresponsive, although screen transitions are a bit more fluid than on other Android tablets. The vast majority of the apps in Google's and Amazon's app stores are designed to work well on small, cheap smartphones, not to show off what a quad-core tablet can do

Asus responded by saying "The ASUS Transformer Prime is made from a metallic unibody design, so the material may affect the performance of the GPS when receiving signals from satellites" they went on to say "this product is not a professional GPS device". "Phil Nickinson from Android Central took a bit of a risk when he ran the Razorclaw rooting app on the review unit Transformer Prime he had, but the risk paid off

Battery life is very good (about 8 hours with the tablet, and 16 hours with the optional keyboard dock).Initially the Prime came loaded with Android 3.2.5 (Honeycomb), and then received Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is speedy and attractive. Thus far, I have been able to: Stay up on emails, reply to emails, review documents and edit them, browse the internet, even log into my desktop to access some needed files

At the time of the test, it quickly became clear that the Asus Transformer couldn't really replace either device, although the dock offers a few useful expansions, such as an additional battery, a USB port and an SD card slot. Nevertheless, a few of the superior benchmark results of the iPad are indications for a still equal, if not even better performance every now and again

I've been using mine for a month (and not using it for two weeks now - see below), and it's an absolutely fantastic, ahead of its time (see below) tablet. Being late to the Transformer Prime game, two things for me are different: 1) I avoided the wifi and GPS issues other people experienced by getting a new model 64GB where these..

I use Google apps for a lot of my personal needs, and while the web interface on IOS is nice, it's just a lot nicer to have individual apps, custom designed to work with Google services are just better, period. The new Google Play experience with this tablet is also fantastic. this product is excellent because with the dock I have a lot longer battery life.Don't like the Ipad cause you are held hostage to itunes and its hard to continue to download items from itunes

And, while we aren't entirely fond of the trackpad, it certainly makes selecting blocks of text much easier than tapping and dragging and tapping again with your fingers on the screen. Oftentimes, we make excuses for metal tablets, such as the 7-inch T-Mobile Springboard and HTC Flyer (hell, let's throw the first-gen iPad in there, too)

Finding the right app can be a bit of a crapshoot.CONS: Basically the same nits as others have pointed out.* SPEAKER: the rear-facing speaker placement is a bit dumb, because it gets covered up relatively easily by your hands or when you set it down

I'll be interested to watch the Prime's performance evolve over time, and see what happens once the over-the-air update for Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich comes along in early 2012, and once more apps get optimized for a multicore mobile universe. Best of all, Asus redesigned the pop-up settings menu to add controls for brightness and SuperIPS+, the rotation lock, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio muting, sync (for use with the Asus PC sync app), and the built-in GPS
