ZoomBrowser EX (Version 6.3) for Windows and ImageBrowser (Version 6.3) for Mac OS X are the easy, user-friendly options for viewing and editing of JPEG and even RAW image files. The D5000 really needs to be lined up against the XSi, not the T1i.The 14mp Sony Alpha 350 might be a good value oriented competitor (when Sony offers bundles), but the IQ of the Canon's CMOS sensor is probably better in most moderate to low light conditions

JPEGs look very clean up through ISO 400, and even at ISO 800 you really have to scrutinize to see the beginnings of detail degradation; at ISO 1,600 the noise becomes more obvious but still isn't too bad. Either way, the T3i remains a solid if unexciting follow-up to its predecessor, although one that seems to cater more to videophiles than still shooters

The DSLR images were processed in Digital Photo Pro (included with all Canon Digital SLR cameras) using the Neutral Picture Style (flat, "0" contrast) and sharpness set to "1" (low). However, put Canon's widest zoom lens (at the time of this writing) on a 1.6x body and compare it to Canon's widest full frame zoom lens on a full frame body

This automatically powers off the LCD temporarily whenever your face is within range, which it interprets as you peering through the viewfinder to line up a shot. After just a couple of weeks I was already using the creative modes and even adventuring into the manual mode, lots of the pictures were useless but help me remember the old days with my Dad and his SLR and wasting a lot of film

The display is really nice, but you do need to crank the brightness to view it in direct sunlight, which can mess with your judgment when shooting video or trying to figure out if you've metering a scene correctly. It offers the same 95 percent coverage as its competitors, but at a lower magnification than some, and it uses the same horribly annoying tiny focus points that don't actually tell you if it's in focus; locked or not, it simply blinks, briefly

For someone like myself who has large hands it is still not too much of a problem but if you feel like this may be a problem then a battery grip should rectify this.In 2 weeks I probably charged this camera once and took almost a thousand photos.. A large, bright 3-inch Clear View LCD monitor with ultra-high 920,000 pixel resolution, a viewing angle of 170 degrees and dual anti-reflection coatings makes it easy to preview, review and share your shots even when you are using the camera in bright sunlight

The Rebel bodies have never lead the frame rate race, but the T2i gains a slight speed improvement over its predecessors - but sacrifices the frame count buffer relative to the T1i. The contrast detection AF (using the shutter release button) that is available in video mode is slow and can completely ruin a segment while it tries to find the right focus distance ("focus pulling" is what the pros do)

It continues the Rebel line of mid-range DSLR cameras, is placed by Canon as the next model up from the EOS 450D, and has been superseded by the EOS 550D (T2i)

I know most of my notes are rather negative (point is to inform, right), but to be honest, HD video, especially on a DSLR with interchangeable lenses is really fun. But then all of those goodies have been beaten to death in reviews everywhere, so I thought I'll just detail some notes on hands-on experience using VIDEO on this bad boy (firmware 1.0.9)

Images which can be viewed at a larger size have a small magnifying glass icon in the bottom right corner of them, click to display a larger image in a new window. Other features appear to be inherited from the EOS 40D; 14-bit image pipeline, Highlight Tone priority, optional High ISO noise reduction, 'My Menu' and display of the ISO sensitivity on the viewfinder status line

Images which can be viewed at a larger size have a small magnifying glass icon in the bottom right corner of them, click to display a larger image in a new window. So you get the 15MP sensor much like the one that appears in the 50D, helping this to become the first entry-level DSLR to feature video (and 1080p HD video at that)
