With the 18-55 as its only lens, the T3 will be spending launch day in the hotel, but we'll find plenty of work for it coming and going from Cape Canaveral. The EOS Feature Guide is designed to help first-time users and beginning enthusiasts better understand each camera setting with descriptions and guided recommendations for when to utilize certain settings

JPEGs look very clean up through ISO 400, and even at ISO 800 you really have to scrutinize to see the beginnings of detail degradation; at ISO 1,600 the noise becomes more obvious but still isn't too bad. Either way, the T3i remains a solid if unexciting follow-up to its predecessor, although one that seems to cater more to videophiles than still shooters

The arrival date-range of each item is determined by adding the minimum of the processing time to the minimum of the shipping time and the maximum of the processing time to the maximum of the shipping time. For instance, if you bought a music CD that took 1 to 2 business days to process before shipping and you had it sent by Standard shipping (3 to 5 business days), the CD would arrive in 4 to 9 business days

ZoomBrowser EX (Version 6.3) for Windows and ImageBrowser (Version 6.3) for Mac OS X are the easy, user-friendly options for viewing and editing of JPEG and even RAW image files. The D5000 really needs to be lined up against the XSi, not the T1i.The 14mp Sony Alpha 350 might be a good value oriented competitor (when Sony offers bundles), but the IQ of the Canon's CMOS sensor is probably better in most moderate to low light conditions

The DSLR images were processed in Digital Photo Pro (included with all Canon Digital SLR cameras) using the Neutral Picture Style (flat, "0" contrast) and sharpness set to "1" (low). However, put Canon's widest zoom lens (at the time of this writing) on a 1.6x body and compare it to Canon's widest full frame zoom lens on a full frame body

It continues the Rebel line of mid-range DSLR cameras, is placed by Canon as the next model up from the EOS 450D, and has been superseded by the EOS 550D (T2i)

In addition to the kit with the veteran f3.5-5.6 18-55mm IS lens, Canon is shipping a body-only version for those of you who already have a lens or two lying around. It also retains My Menu, which lets you build a go-to list of the most frequently accessed menu settings--in my case, for instance, format and metering settings

The Rebel bodies have never lead the frame rate race, but the T2i gains a slight speed improvement over its predecessors - but sacrifices the frame count buffer relative to the T1i. The contrast detection AF (using the shutter release button) that is available in video mode is slow and can completely ruin a segment while it tries to find the right focus distance ("focus pulling" is what the pros do)

Canon Rebel T1i Review

I have shot with many different Canon DSLRs over the years, including the XT, XTi, XS and XSi, and they have all featured a fully automatic mode, but the T1i features an even more advanced auto system called Creative Auto. Like most DSLRs that have been manufactured in the past decade, the T1i has doesn't have any radically different buttons, instead it has added more pro-level SLR buttons

I know most of my notes are rather negative (point is to inform, right), but to be honest, HD video, especially on a DSLR with interchangeable lenses is really fun. But then all of those goodies have been beaten to death in reviews everywhere, so I thought I'll just detail some notes on hands-on experience using VIDEO on this bad boy (firmware 1.0.9)

To better enable successful imaging under the most challenging of lighting conditions, the camera's DIGIC 4 Image Processor allows you to set the ISO rating from ISO 100 through 3200 in standard mode, and from 6400 to 12,800 in expanded mode. The big news, however, is the Rebel T1i's ability to record a choice of full HD 1080p, 720p, and VGA video capture, which places it among the few DSLRs currently available that can capture true high-resolution video that beats or meets the image quality of far costlier pro camcorders To help reduce retouching time, the Rebel T1i features an EOS Integrated Cleaning System that combats dust through the use of high-frequency vibrations that shake dust loose from the sensor's front-mounted IR filter every time you power up and power down

The aperture however requires a little unlock+twist of the lens to lock - but once they're set, you can't change them on the fly, without dipping back into auto and having the camera chose for you. The reason a beginner might be interested is because of its small size, lightweight, easy to carry around, great preset modes, ease of use and its potential to produce great shots every time, and finally it shoots full 1080p video with amazing colours (or black and white)

So you get the 15MP sensor much like the one that appears in the 50D, helping this to become the first entry-level DSLR to feature video (and 1080p HD video at that)
