Cambodian Immigration police will issue you a Visa on arrival (they will ask for a tip though, so it is really best to get a Visa on-line or at the Cambodian Consulate in Bangkok.A less known (but much better) bus service that goes directly from Bangkok to the Cambodian Border at Poipet is available from Ekamai (Eastern) Bus Terminal on Sukhumvit Road. I was thouroughly acclimatised by then, so I just baked myself to a crisp, but many Westerners on that boat spent their time at Siem Reap being mistaken for over-cooked lobsters. If you must hire a tuk-tuk from the landing, make sure the driver is wearing a vest with his number on it, that way if he tries to double the price, (it will already be very high), just take down his number and threaten to report him

They were very persistent, telling us that cars can't go into Siem Reap (they can), they didn't know the hotel, etc., but we simply said we wouldn't pay until we were at our hotel. Make sure you get an idea of where the buildings are located (Wikitravel has a handy map, and seat61.com shows pictures of the buildings) so you don't end up in one of the tout zones

cambodia road is totally unsafe at night! i have bee a pillion rider on a motorbike so many times, i always fear for my life whenever i see the cars zooming past me from the other direction. The roads are bad enough by daylight but hitting a wandering buffalo or two at night at speed, even in a bus, simply does not bear thinking about in a country with no emergency evacuation, no public ambulance services or other emergency medical services

A word of caution on the boat, while I hadn't personally been on it, I think the water level can have a bearing on the length of the journey I presume we're in the dry season or very near it at the moment?
