I have not backed up my phone for a long time and I have a lot of pictures of my kids and stuff that I don't want to lose if at all possible, so I don't want to restore the phone from scratch if I can avoid it. I then tried to turn the phone back on the normal way by again pressing the sleep button and the normal apple logo appears, but this time the phone would not boot up past the apple logo

Basically, if I plug in a connector cable that is connected to a USB I get a silver Apple logo appear on screen for a minute or so, then the display disappears apart from a very faint Apple logo (almost like screen burn) until I unplug the cable, then it disappears completely

I checked the pictures in the guide it looked like it might be upside down, so I flipped it, put the battery back in and presto, my iPhone worked again, WOOHOO! Funny how it can be something so simple sometimes. But now It would power on and work perfectly only when plugged into a wall, but would immediately shut off when unplugged and would do nothing when plugged into the computer

The connector on the dock has two pins on the side, I have no clue if this makes the iPhone react to it in a different way or not, but I've taken some photo's of a regular connector and the dock connector in case it helps. (open iTunes FIRST) 3) select restore to factory defaults when the phone appears (it will just wait) 4) update as required (if you have no backup, you will lose all data on the phone but it should get you going again) Thanks for your fast reply
