if you just look at the numbers, 200,00 dead is a much better outcome than 1 million dead, and thats not including the millions of American soldiers that also would have died. Though the bombings shortened the war by possibly years and saved many allied soldiers lives, it was over kill because of the terrible immediate and lasting effects of the radiation and the destruction of the bomb itself
