Get good at switching from one handing a weapon with your shield to two handing it to strike and then get out of range and back to single handing to use your shield for protection. All I was lacking was the balls to dance the dance up close and personal, but since the Tower Knight tought me that lesson the hard way, Smaug and Ornstein were a piece of cake.My advice

Yes its still helpful if you really cant beat a boss, but why risk being alive and getting invaded when I can just have full health while dead? Having that half health bar invited more people to join other peoples games as everyone wanted to be alive and it made it more important to beat the bosses with other people. I enjoyed the soundtrack of Demon's Souls enough that I have it on my iPhone, but so far the music in Dark Soul's has been totally bland.I don't know if I'm going to continue playing if the game continues how it has

The only annoyances I found with Steam are the advertisements you get after quitting your game, and having to hit SHIFT+TAB twice to get a clean screen. Some keyboard shortcuts for the PC might be useful, especially if you can bypass a menu screen and execute the action directly with a simple key click (gestures for example), but I have been using the gamepad exclusively for all menu and game controls

I have no idea the best way to get to blighttown...If you're willing to skip a couple bosses and the Depths (which can unlock the pyromancy and sorcery trainer), then take my suggested routes. Otherwise, in front of the church and down the steps (which is behind the gate the Armored Boar was guarding) there's a corpse with the 'Basement Key' on it
