Ported Vacuum Switch Another component that may be a part of your vehicle's EGR system is a "ported vacuum switch" (PVS), which may also be called a "thermal vacuum valve" or "temperature vacuum valve" (TVS). When used to control the vacuum to an EGR valve on a late model engine, the engine computer will wait to energize the solenoid until the engine is warm and is operating above a certain rpm

The next step is now to dynamically test the EGR Valve Vacuum Regulator Solenoid, go to TEST 6 CASE 2: If 12 Volts were NOT present when the key was turned to On, re-check all of your connections and Multimeter setup. If the Vacuum lines are color coded, the line that is green is the one that usually connects to the Intake Manifold and is the one that feeds vacuum to the EGR Valve Vacuum Regulator Solenoid

Intermixing the incoming air with recirculated exhaust gas in a specific amount dilutes the mix with inert gas which slows the combustion, and lowers peak engine temperatures, resulting in more power and less hesitation under load. I know somone knows how to do it, im sitting here waiting for a response because if you do not drill them I do not want to end up with holes im not supposed to have

This is not common to all valves however, as some pick up the exhaust gases through a separate chamber in the intake manifold. Some vehicles have the EGR valve located in the rear of the intake manifold. It is important that these hoses be marked for removal so they can be re-installed in the same position. If difficulty is encountered in locating the EGR valve, just follow all the vacuum lines, which are few in number and one of them will lead to the EGR

The car runs like the day I bought it back in 2004! I'm keeping it because I love the way it drives and all the transmission codes got erased because now it is accelerating properly and shifts when it reaches the correct mph speed. Some mechanical versions will not open until there is sufficient back pressure, ensuring that the valve will not be open when the engine is idle or warming up and needs a higher concentration of oxygen for combustion

Yes, no? While I don't (yet) have documented proof of this, it is my understanding that unless your van was originally delivered in (or very near a border with) California, Washington, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine or Canada, you DON'T have an EGR system installed in your car. I realize your engine may not be so equipped, but the others have not said why you would throw a P0404 code if you don't have one? Anyone? I'm curious now

I would try that first, unbolt the flange, gently hold the tube out of the way enough to get a spray straw in there then soak the snot out of the inside of it. I pulled the flange up the tube and out of my way and carefully pushed the tube toward the driver's side enough to see into the valve just a little bit and soaked the snot out of the inside

but in your case I think it's too late! Gotta love how we have to remove the cowl to get at the TB! Last edited by hardwareguy; 11-11-2006 at 03:52 PM..
