Aside from the display issue, the computer works fine, able to transfer files over the network, heck, I can even use Quicksilver keystrokes to log into iChat even though the display is black! I immediately took it to the Apple store, where, after fiddling with it a bit, the guy at the genius bar tells me it won't boot and he can't run the Nvidia graphics test - sure enough, it doesn't boot. How did apple distinguish your problem as with the GPU instead of any other failure of the logic board? I am of course hopeful that my issue is the GPU since I am in the three-year window

I have tried every F key and every Fn combination and even all of the ctrl, option, shiftalt, shiftoption, shift+ctrl combinations with all of the F keys. It took some research, but the techs there are fairly certain that this was caused by importing unwanted keyboard definitions using Migration Assistant
