Although I was successful in getting the disk read error to go away, every windows file in the windows folder seemed to be corrupted and I was unable to run a repair install because the Windows CD does see the windows install in the recovery console but not in the actual installer. When I tried to run the Recovery Console, I found I couldn't even do that - I've never set an administrtor password and it was demanding one (blank didn't work)
