MIG Welding Basics, How to Weld, Pulsed MIG Tips

Remember before the introduction of faulty pulsed equipment, Miller had a reputation as one of the world's most reliable MIG weld equipment manufactures. If the Panasonic equipment and the MIG and flux cored process had been used for structural steel applications used in seismic locations, in contrast to traditional CV equipment and argon mixes, there is no doubt in my mind that the Panasonic equipment would produce inferior weld quality with extensive lack of weld fusion issues

In my opinion, the self-shielded flux core wires are one of the worst welding products invented, they create brittle, shallow welds, are difficult to use, incredibly easy to misuse, and they create toxic, hazardous fumes so they should NEVER be used indoors
http://www.eastwood.com/mig-welding-basics-article Competition: low
To weld thin metal, such as sheet steel, the smaller wire is preferred (0.024"; Eastwood sells 0.023" Solid MIG Wire), as it burns a little cooler and leaves less filler material. Flux-core wire is available in 0.035" and 0.045" (Eastwood offers 0.030" Flux Core Wire), which is why flux-core wire is more difficult to use on sheet metal
MIG Welding Shielding Gas Basics
http://www.bernardwelds.com/mig-welding-shielding-gas-basics-p152080 Competition: low
The MIG gun consumables, consisting of a diffuser, contact tip and nozzle, play a crucial role in ensuringthat the weld pool is properly protected from the air atmosphere. If you choose a nozzle that is too narrow for the application or if the diffuser becomes clogged with spatter, for example, there might be too little shielding gas getting to the weld pool. Some companies offer nozzles with a built in spatter guard that also adds a second phase of shielding gas diffusion, resulting in even smoother, more consistent shielding gas flow.Choosing the right shielding gas for your specific application will require a careful analysis of the type of welding you are doing as well as your operational priorities

TIG is the preferred method for very thin material or when joint integrity is critical - such as the root weld in pipes for the offshore industry - and the shielding gas required for MIG can be affected by drafts and wind. The main advantage here is that it enables good strength to be achieved when joining thin materials - even down to 0.5mm - and an example of MIG brazing is found in the automotive industry

Argon, being heavier than air, sits on the weld puddle longer than other types of inert shielding gases, allowing ample time for the molten weld puddle to cool Instructions 1 Place the bottle of argon gas onto the TIG welder. 2 Crack the valve of the argon bottle, by quickly opening and closing the valve handle located at the top of the bottle to blow contaminates from the interior of the valve
